The prime minister held a press conference regarding Ukraine’s work with the IMF and the upcoming winter.

Here are the most interesting items from the head of the Ukrainian government, Denys Shmyhal.

  1. The IMF’s fifth mission emphasizes the 2025 budget. As the PM noted, this was the first time the IMF mission took place offline during the war, with its leadership present in Kyiv. Shmyhal noted the complexity of the negotiations and explained that the discussions primarily concern the coming year: What should Ukraine’s next steps be, as well as those of the IMF and the G7 partners?
  2. Ukraine will not buy gas for the heating season. This winter, as well as the last, Ukraine plans to produce its own gas without help from its partners. The Naftogaz group produced 8.6 billion cubic meters of gas in seven months, 7% more than last year. Ukraine and its partners are working on the energy sector’s restoration and decentralization.
  3. The government expects to increase electricity imports from the EU from 1.7 GW to 2.2 GW.
