Experts name promising agricultural production areas for Ukraine to explore in the African market.

Experts from the state company Ukrainian-African Trade Mission, founded by the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, believe that the strategic measure of Ukrainian growing and processing technologies and satisfying critical import needs that Ukrainian producers can provide, are two directions that Ukraine can expand in Africa and, in particular, in Nigeria.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has lost its wheat supply share in the Nigerian market: in the 2021/22 season, it was 6.1%, but last year Ukraine’s place was taken by the Baltic countries. Nigeria’s total need for wheat imports is 5.5 million tons. It is noted that Ukrainian producers should consider the legume and oilseeds markets.

Currently, soybean oil is trending in Nigeria, with demand reaching $70M. According to experts, seed production can become a driving force for Ukraine: The transition from raw materials to high-margin crops. In particular, the seeds of basic crops, corn, wheat, soybeans, and sunflowers, will be of interest to Africa.
