An American plant has increased its production of 155-mm shells for Ukraine by 50%.

The Scranton Army Ammunition Plant, located in Scranton Pennsylvania, has increased he production of artillery shells for transfer to Ukraine by 50% (from 24,000 to 36,000 shells per month) as part of defense assistance provided by the US.

Three new production lines are currently under development, which will allow the company to produce even more critical munitions. The factory is now focused on production of 155 mm projectiles. The factory produces artillery rounds, which are sent to Iowa where they are filled with explosives and equipped with fuses.

Since 2006, General Dynamics has managed the enterprise under a contract with the US government, which owns the plant. This week, government officials announced an increase in production thanks to a $400M plant modernization.  The US has sent more than three million 155 mm artillery shells to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022. Last week, the White House announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth $125M, including 155 mm shells.
