The EU will provide Ukraine Railways €43M for the modernization and construction of European-standard track.
The EU will allocate €42.95M to Ukrainian Railways (UZ) to improve the country’s railway network and begin the transition to 1,435 mm track to ensure infrastructure compatibility and increase the railway infrastructure’s capacity. The project’s total budget is €85.91M, of which the EU will provide about half. Within the scope of the financing, it is planned to design the reconstruction of railway structures with the introduction and construction of a 1,435 mm track on the Chop-Lviv and Lviv-Chernivtsi-Vadul-Siret-Derzhkordon sections.
It is also planned to develop a strategy for reconstructing the Lviv railway hub, considering the prospects of expanding the 1,435 mm railway network used by the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in Ukraine. In addition, the funds will be used for the design and construction of a 1435 mm track with electrification on the Pavlové-2/Mátyóc-Uzhgorod section and electrification of a 1435 mm track on the Chop-Uzhhorod section.
