More than 60 MEPs demand to deprive Hungary of the right to vote in the EU.

63 European Parliament members demand that the leadership of the EU deprive Hungary of the right to vote in the EU due to the actions of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, writes Politico.

The MEPs sent a corresponding letter to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. According to the letter, Orbán “has already caused significant damage by exploiting and abusing the role of chairman in the Council”, particularly “deliberately distorting his powers” during visits to the Russian Federation and China.

“This requires real actions, such as suspending Hungary’s right to vote in the Council, as practice has shown that simple verbal condemnation of this situation has no effect,” the MEPs believe.

It is emphasized that the letter was signed by members of the European Parliament from several countries and parliamentary groups, including the European People’s Party, Renew Europe, and the Greens.
