Ukraine is developing winemaking and is looking for an investor for an agricultural company with rare wine cellars in Transcarpathia.

The head of the State Property Fund (SPFU), Vitaliy Koval, said that Transcarpathia has ambitious plans to develop its wine industry. In particular, the Leanka enterprise, known for its unique wine cellars, is actively being prepared for privatization through Prozorro.Sales auction. It will give the enterprise a powerful impetus for development and become a new success story.

Wine cellars in the village of Serednye near Uzhgorod are the oldest in Ukraine and listed by UNESCO as one of Europe’s ten best wine cellars. The cellars were laid in 1557 by the then-owners of the Serednye castle, magnates Francis Stefan and Dominic Dobo. The Serednye wine cellars have a total length of 4.5 km and are carved out of tuff, a porous rock of volcanic origin. A constant temperature of 12°C creates ideal conditions for aging wine.

Koval also reminds interested parties that the region registered the geographical logo, Wines of Transcarpathia, to promote local products on the market.
