US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv on May 14 to demonstrate US solidarity with Ukraine,
which continues to suffer under massive Russian shelling. During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Antony Blinken discussed Kharkiv’s need for air defense systems and new military aid to Ukraine. In particular, Zelenskyy mentioned the existing shortage of and great need for air defense systems.
“Today we need two Patriot systems – for Kharkiv and the Kharkiv Region, because people are under constant fire there,” he said.
Blinken says that the US understands that Ukraine is going through difficult times, but, according to him, new military aid to Kyiv is already on the way, and part of it has already arrived.
Zelenskyy also spoke about preparing the first Peace Summit for Ukraine, which will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16. The President asked the Secretary of State to help attract as many countries as possible to the summit and emphasized the importance of both the US’ and President Biden’s participation.
