The EC calls the problems on the Ukrainian-Polish border temporary and explains their causes.

The Vice-President of the EC, Valdis Dombrovskis, explains that the problems on Ukraine’s border with Poland are a short-term consequence of the Russian war. More precisely, they are echoes from blocking the Black Sea corridors and disruption in trade flows.

“I don’t see any serious problems outside of agriculture because we have already fully liberalized access to the EU market for all Ukrainian goods,” he said, adding that from the EC’s point of view, this is a very good indicator for Kyiv.

Active discussions are underway regarding future agricultural policy, with Ukraine as a potential candidate for EU membership.

Dombrovskis added that Polish officials are currently holding back the process of unblocking the border. He gave an example of how Romania implemented permits for grain export from Ukraine and avoided “jumps” in its markets. That is, Ukrainian grain does not create a destabilizing effect there; therefore, if Poland rationally approaches the situation, there will be no problem.
