Scholz and Biden call on the US Congress to approve aid to Ukraine.

During a visit to the White House on February 9, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed further assistance to Ukraine with US President Joe Biden, and both leaders called on the US Congress to approve additional funding for it as soon as possible.

Before the meeting, Biden told reporters that Congress would be guilty of “almost criminal negligence” if it did not pass a decision on funding for Ukraine. He thanked Scholz for his leadership in securing military aid for Kyiv in Germany.

The German chancellor, in turn, recalled the recent decision of EU leaders to approve €50B in financial assistance to Kyiv and Germany’s decision to increase military aid. Scholz emphasized that Germany has recently made a decisive contribution to the support of Ukraine.

“Now, the same thing should happen in the rest of Europe and the US,” he said.

The day before, Scholz met with American senators from both parties, who assured him that Congress understands the need for Ukraine’s continuous support.
