Berlin and Kyiv are close to agreeing on security guarantees, and London has offered to exchange Storm Shadows for German Taurus cruise missiles.
Germany and Ukraine are close to agreeing on security guarantees, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Berlin.
Meanwhile, the UK offered Germany a way out of deadlock related to supplying the Taurus to Ukraine. In particular, it suggests that Germany export the Taurus to Britain. In return, London would transfer Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Kyiv.
At the same time, the head of the Bundestag’s defense committee noted that the Storm Shadow is not an equal replacement for German missiles.
However, according to Spiegel, Germany is open to the idea of exchanging munitions to allow Ukraine to get more cruise missiles. In addition to Great Britain, France is considering a similar arrangement with the Taurus.
