After European Council pressure on Hungary, Orban agrees to unlock €50B for Ukraine, but Slovakia is now against the move.

After the announced consideration of a resolution on the deprivation of the right to vote in the Council of the EU, Hungary declared that it is ready to give in and unblock funding for Ukraine.

According to Politico, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is open to a compromise, even though the new deal will likely fall short of his demands from last month. The leaders of the European block are still discussing what exactly should be offered to Hungary. However, the EU is confident that an agreement can be concluded within the next few weeks.

“It is doubtful that member states will adopt a decision that gives Hungary a chance for regular blackmail,” said an EU diplomat.

At the same time, Viktor Orbán gained an ally regarding the provision of aid to Ukraine – the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has given his support to Hungary’s veto.
