Moldova wants to ban the import of Ukrainian grain, and Ukraine is preparing measures in response.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova, Minister Volodymyr Bolya met with EU Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks to announce applying temporary measures identical to those introduced in some EU countries regarding importing grain and oil crops from Ukraine.
On May 6, Bolya personally informed his Ukrainian colleague, Mykola Solsky, about these plans. In response, the Ukrainian government is preparing a resolution banning Moldovan imports.
“We have informed Chisinau that any restriction on the part of Moldova will be considered an extremely unfriendly step and will entail an immediate ban on all imports from Moldova,” said Ukrainian trade representative Taras Kachka. He considers the grounds for such a decision as unclear since Ukraine does not export these crops to Moldova.
Bolya assured Solsky that the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products will be carried out without interruption. Negotiations on the matter are ongoing.
