Ukraine decides to sow more vegetables this year due to rising prices.
The increase in planted area will help to achieve a bigger harvest than last year, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi said.
He added that the ministry is working to fill the market need as much as possible and stabilize prices through market mechanisms, not regulation or restrictions.
Vysotskyi explained that vegetable prices are the highest in the spring due to the seasonal factor. But their value was also affected by the energy crisis, which prevented the preservation of a large part of the harvest. The official predicts that with the new harvest, prices will decrease.
According to the State Statistics Service, from March 2022 to March 2023, prices for vegetables in Ukraine increased by 36.2% and for fruits by 74.9%, while inflation was 24.9%.
