The European Commission presents the 9th package of sanctions against Russia.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, presented the ninth package of sanctions against Russia, which the EU countries must approve. About 200 individuals and legal entities were added to the list of sanctions. Sanctions are also being introduced against three more Russian banks. In addition, a ban on Russia’s access to drones directly and through potential suppliers from third countries such as Iran is being implemented. Export controls are introduced, especially on dual-purpose goods that the Russian army can use or repurpose. The European Commission also proposes disconnecting four more Russian channels from the air. An investment ban and other restrictive economic measures against the Russian energy and mining sectors are introduced. The new package is expected to be agreed upon during the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries on December 12 and will be approved on December 15.
