State nuclear enterprise Energoatom will build a new power unit at the Rivne Nuclear Power plant.

The new unit, with a capacity of 1,100 MW, will be made using American Westinghouse AR1000 technology, reported gov.ua.  It is planned to be put into operation in 2032 on the site chosen for construction almost 20 years ago. Pre-project work is already underway. Specialists analyzed the current and prospective use of water resources in the area where the NPP is located and conducted an analysis of the existing infrastructure of the Rivne NPP and intersystem connections of the western Ukrainian region’s energy system. The construction of the new No. 5 power unit is necessary given the need to replace the capacities of power units Nos. 1 and 2.
