90% of tanks and $25B from blocking sites: analysts have calculated Russia’s losses in Ukraine.
During the 23 months of war in Ukraine, the Russian army has lost at least 2,619 tanks. Analysts say the Russian armed forces entered the war in February 2022 with 2,987 tanks. About 90% of the main battle tanks have been destroyed in the almost two years since the start of hostilities. Among them were 1,725 destroyed machines, 145 damaged, 205 abandoned, and 544 captured. At best, the Russian Federation can produce 200 tanks per year.
At the same time, the government’s ban on internet access has cost the Russian Federation $25.6B over the two years of the war. This can be compared with the 10-year budgets of large regions such as Voronezh or Volgograd. The regime’s desire to deprive citizens of uncensored information has made the Russian Federation a world leader in losses due to restrictions on internet access.
In addition, Russia has incurred extraordinary expenses for its air attacks on Ukraine. In particular, the aggressor state spent at least $239M on the January 13 attack alone.
