500% tariff: The US Senate proposes new sanctions against Russia in retaliation for the Kremlin’s refusal to sign a peace deal.

Two US senators, Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal, have introduced a bill to impose new sanctions on Russia in response to the Kremlin’s refusal to sign a peace deal.

“The Senate is dominated by the view that Russia is the aggressor; this terrible war and Putin’s aggression must stop now and be restrained in the future,” said a joint statement from 50 senators.

The bill outlines both primary and secondary sanctions against Moscow and those who support the Kremlin’s aggression toward Ukraine. The sanctions would be enacted if peace talks fail or if Russia violates the signed agreement. Among the restrictions is a 500% tariff on imported goods from countries that purchase Russian oil, gas, uranium, and other resources.

“These sanctions against Russia are prepared and will receive overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers if brought to a vote,” the senators stated.

They also emphasized that they share President Trump’s frustration with Russia concerning the ceasefire and support Trump’s efforts to achieve a lasting, just, and dignified peace.
