The Institute for Automotive Market Research, after analyzing the structure of primary registrations of imported used cars by fuel type in the first half of the year from 2022-2025, reported that gasoline cars are in highest demand among Ukrainians. In the first half of 2025, they accounted for 46.1% of the market, compared to 47.6% last year.
The popularity of gasoline cars persists due to a wide selection of models in Europe, significant imports from the US, and relatively simple and inexpensive maintenance. Meanwhile, the popularity of diesel cars is rapidly declining. In 2022, they held a market share of 56.9%, but this year, it dropped to only 23.2%. This shift is attributed to new restrictions on diesel in the EU, low demand for old diesel cars in Europe, a lack of diesels in the US, and a general decrease in their popularity.
The growth in the share of electric vehicles has become one of the most noticeable trends in the domestic car market. The figures for 2022-2025 show percentages of 1.2%, 10.7%, 16.7%, and 22.1%, respectively. This trend is driven by Ukraine’s relatively developed charging infrastructure, the availability of cars from China, South Korea, and the US, and the fuel economy.
