Ukraine will resume electricity exports during peak hours of RES generation.

According to Ukrenergo, the mild heat in Ukraine has led to a significant decrease in electricity consumption. In addition, a 1 GW power unit at a nuclear power plant has been returned to the power system after its scheduled repairs.

This has created a surplus of capacity in the Ukrainian power system during daytime hours when solar power plants operate at full capacity. At the same time, to ensure the power system’s stable operation, it is necessary to maintain a balance between the production and consumption of electricity.

There are two ways to eliminate this surplus: limiting generation at solar power plants or resuming electricity exports during daylight hours. “Given the economic impracticality of limiting the operation of SPPs, Ukraine plans to resume electricity exports to neighboring countries. This will avoid restrictions for Ukrainian electricity producers,” Ukrenergo said. The company emphasized that exports will be carried out only in periods of surplus when solar power plants are actively operating.
