US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that USAID purchased 18 autotransformers for the Ukrainian power grid. The US is also supporting Ukraine’s intention to resume the construction of additional nuclear power reactors in the medium term.
“The US is supporting us in the completion of additional units and additional generation in the medium and long term,” said Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk.
He clarified that Ukraine’s partnership with the US is not limited to fuel supply. Ukraine is also discussing the inclusion of American technologies in Ukraine’s nuclear industrial complex.
Meanwhile, the Austrian minister for European and international affairs stated that Austria will provide Ukraine with significant assistance through the Energy Support Fund. The country will contribute €15M.
Meanwhile, the National Bank has estimated that importing electricity from the EU to partially counter its power generation deficit will cost Ukraine about $1B annually.
