The transit of Russian gas through Ukraine has reached last year’s figures.

On February 22, Russia’s Gazprom increased gas transit by 4%, to 42.1 million cubic meters, to Europe through Ukraine utilizing the Suja gas measuring station, according to the Operator of GTS of Ukraine. Therefore, the supply volumes, which sharply decreased at the beginning of 2023, returned to last year’s indicators. The day before, the transit application was approximately at the 40.3 million cubic meters level. In mid-January, gas pumping through Ukraine fell by 40% to approximately 24 million cubic meters per day, although since May last year, it has remained at 40-43 million cubic meters. At the same time, the volume of gas transit is much smaller than the maximum capacity, 109.6 million cubic meters per day. The long-term contract for 2020-2024 on the “pump or pay” terms makes Russia pay for the entire booked volume, which is 40 billion cubic meters.
