Over the next six months, Ukrzaliznytsia crews are to reopen 43 km of track west to Vilkhova, Zhytomyr. This line was abandoned after the 1986 disaster. Energoatom, Ukraine’s state nuclear power operator, will run this line through the Exclusion Zone. After last year’s boom in Chornobyl tourism, Kyiv tour operators are interested in using the restored rail line.
