In the first half of the year, Ukrainian enterprises increased the production of cast iron by 22.3% (3.47 million tons), steel by 37% (3.87 million tons) and rolled products by 32.2% (3.14 million tons) compared to the same period last year. However, some of June’s production figures decreased from May: rolled metal by 3.9% to 571,500 tons, steel smelting amounted to 734,700 tons (-0.4%), and cast iron – 628,600 tons (-3.8%).
The monthly pace of metallurgy production has slowed as domestic enterprises face several challenges, including the deterioration of the country’s power system, shortage of personnel due to mobilization, an imperfect reservation system, logistical problems and unfavorable conditions in the global steel market.
Compared to June 2023, in June 2024 the production of rolled products increased by 45.8%, steel smelting by 68.4%, and pig iron by 29.4%.
