Average consumer prices for food in October increased by 1% compared to September, thereby ending the decline that had been ongoing since July of this year. The prices of vegetables (+14%), eggs (+10.1%), and milk (+2.1%) increased the most. In addition, butter prices increased by 2.9%, baby formula by 2.5%, sour cream by 2.2%, soft fatty cheeses by 1.9%, lard by 1.6%, and beef by 1.4%.
However, in October half of the products that are statistically tracked fell in price. The prices of carrots decreased by almost 14%, buckwheat by 11.9%, apples by 8.7%, potatoes by 7.2%, and sugar by 2.2%. For pork, a price reduction (about 1%) occurred for the first time since February 2023. This is evidence that the influence of the arrival of products from the 2023 harvest on consumer prices continues.
At the same time, Polish carriers’ blocking of the border is making it difficult to deliver imported goods to Ukraine. This leads to a shortage of these products and their prices increase.
