During the war, Ukrainian power generation lost more than 40 GW of capacity.

Українські енергетики дали першу оцінку збитків від нових повітряних атак РФ: €100 млн та 50% генерувальних потужностей.

During the war, Ukrainian power generation lost more than 40 GW of capacity.

During the full-scale invasion, due to occupation and destruction, Ukraine has lost more than 40 GW of electricity generation capacity, said Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko. He notes that Ukraine’s energy system has gone through three phases of destruction:

  1. The first occurred at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, when the Zaporizhzhia NPP was occupied, and part of the country’s wind and solar generation was lost.
  2. The second phase was the Russians attacking distribution networks, Ukrenergo’s transformer nodes, local networks, and generation facilities.
  3. The third phase began at the end of March 2024, when the Russians began to shell thermal and hydro power generation facilities.

“Due to the latest phase, we’ve lost nine GW, about 50% of our winter peak consumption. And in total, we’ve lost over 40 GW, which are terrible numbers,” Kovalenko summarized.
