According to Andriy Konechenkov, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, since the beginning of the full-scale war, three new wind farms have been built in Ukraine: Tyligulska (114 MW), Dnistrovsk (60 MW) and Skolivska (54.6 MW).
“Currently, there are 58 projects with a total capacity of more than seven GW at various stages. However, these projects are in temporarily occupied territories. That is, 4-5 GW can be implemented while the war continues,” he said.
According to him, almost the entire territory of Ukraine is suitable for the development of wind generation. In particular, the Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Rivne, and Lviv regions are promising, where the average wind speed at the height of 100 m can reach from 6.5 to 7.0 m/s (minimum for the most efficient electricity generation). The average speed is even higher, 8.0-8.2 m/s, in the Kherson and Odesa regions.
Therefore, wind turbines can compensate for the lost generating capacity in the network.
