Ukraine aims to produce half of the weapons used by its armed forces domestically, including drones, armored vehicles, and ammunition. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, weapons production in Ukraine has increased 35-fold, and the country still has the potential to further boost these figures. Currently, 40% of the weapons at the front are Ukrainian-made. Overall, Ukraine plans to spend ₴2.6T (31.1% of GDP) on its defense this year. This week, the government will introduce grant programs for ammunition and explosives manufacturers.
Additionally, a Ukrainian developer of thermal imaging cameras and FPV drones, Odd Systems, has partnered with Danish defense firm Terma Group to develop a low-cost AI-based drone interceptor. The companies will collaborate to create a scalable and reliable method of countering UAVs of various types, including the Shahed.
Meanwhile, the Defense Procurement Agency has already contracted products from three companies that produce interceptor drones, including Ukrainian and American manufacturers.
