A South Korean company is set to construct a $106M waste-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Odesa.

Posco International, a South Korean corporation, plans to build a thermal power plant in Odesa that will utilize waste as fuel. This project aims to establish an RDF-fueled CHP plant as a modern, integrated solution to energy and environmental challenges.

Both Ukrainian and Korean representatives have begun preparing the project’s conceptual document. The Odesa City Council has allocated a 4-hectare land plot, appointed a utility company, and established all necessary engineering networks, including a gas pipeline. The new CHP plant is projected to have a generating capacity of 12 MW of electricity and 40 MW of thermal energy. The overall cost of the project is estimated at $106M.

Posco International highlighted: “We maintain strong connections with Ukraine and have previously executed projects in the metallurgical and agro-industrial sectors, particularly in the Mykolaiv region, and we anticipate further active collaboration.”
