President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the Big Seven (G7) countries to respond to Russia’s strikes on Ukraine’s energy sector with new symmetrical sanctions. In particular, the introduction of a strict price ceiling for Russian oil and gas. The president thanked the G7 countries for the eighth sanctions package but noted that it is not a severe enough punishment for Russia. According to Zelenskyy, Russia has started a new escalation stage with massive strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, so a new sanctions package is needed. Zelenskyy called on the G7 to block Russia’s energy sector with sanctions and thus remove the Russian revenue stability from the oil and gas trade.
