Yesterday, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, Ukraine’s longest-serving minister, resigned.

Denis Monastyrsky, a ruling party Rada member, has accepted President Zelenskiy’s invitation to succeed him. In the Rada since February 2014, the culmination of the Revolution of Dignity, Avakov served under two Presidents and four Prime Ministers. Commanding 200,000 law enforcement officers, he was often seen as the second most powerful political figure in Ukraine. No reason was given for his resignation.
