Newly elected US President Donald Trump may offer Ukraine an option to freeze the military conflict with Russia without the return of its occupied territories in return for delaying NATO membership for at least 20 years.
According to the WSJ, its sources who disclosed this possible scenario for the war’s end say that it is one of many that Trump’s advisers are currently discussing. It is assumed that a demilitarized zone will be declared along the entire front line after the freezing of hostilities. However, it is currently unknown who will ensure its safety. The involvement of American troops or a UN contingent is excluded.
And, if Trump refuses to allow Kyiv to join NATO for the next 20 years, he will promise to continue supplying Ukraine with weapons.
Trump has not yet laid out a specific plan to end the war in Ukraine. Trump’s former national security aide says he will decide personally and at the last moment, so no one can predict what the president will decide.
