As Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg explained, this would mean strengthening the political partnership between Ukraine and the NATO allies. He clarified that the commission is when 31 allies meet with one partner, and if the allies agree to establish the Ukraine-NATO Council, it means there will be 32 equal members.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said that creating the Ukraine-NATO Council without a decisive step towards membership is the same as providing a tank without a gun.
Stoltenberg also reported that NATO member states had reached an agreement on many issues related to Ukraine’s future in the Alliance. Also, Stoltenberg added, “I expect the Allies to agree on a multi-year program to help Ukraine move to NATO standards and become fully compatible with NATO.”
