What will EU ministers discuss at the first meeting in Kyiv?

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Spain Josep Borrell attends in an European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The visiting European ministers of foreign affairs meeting in Ukraine expect results in seven areas. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, it is planned to discuss the following issues: the continuation and increase of defensive support to Ukraine, security guarantees for Ukraine, the next sanctions package, and the opening of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

Kuleba drew attention to the first ever external meeting of EU foreign ministers outside Europe. In their founding documents, it is stipulated that the council meets in Brussels or Luxembourg. But the correct legal wording was found specifically for Ukraine, which allows them to come and hold the meeting in Kyiv.

“It is a strong signal to the world that the EU considers Ukraine as an integral part of the European Family,” said Kuleba.
