Vice-presidential candidate and US Senator JD Vance commented on the war in Ukraine, saying, “We need to believe in peace and bring peace to this region.” Vance also said Ukraine seems “short of soldiers who can fight.” He also reiterated Trump’s assertion that Russia would not have launched an invasion if Trump were president. As for Kamala Harris’ candidacy, according to him, she is not able to “sit in the same audience with Putin and promote an acceptable peace.”
In contrast, the vice-presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has supported Ukraine from the first days of the war.
“We support Ukraine and condemn Russia for these unprovoked and illegal attacks. It’s time to put an end to the violence and hold Russia accountable,” Walz said in a statement.
He also used an executive order to prevent Minnesota state agencies from doing business with Russian and Belarusian companies. As well, arms manufacturers who supply Ukraine with important weapons operate in Minnesota.
