According to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the US, Oksana Markarova, Ukraine had previously heard only a definite “no” on this issue. Still, in May, the issue was discussed for the first time. This was also the case with many other supplies of military aid in support of Ukraine. “This is because there are many factors involved in obtaining each capability. And political readiness to provide assistance is an important, but far from the only, factor,” Markarova explained.
She added that when it comes to the supply of ATACMS, the availability of missiles in sufficient numbers, the training of Ukraine’s military, the supplies of weapon systems, its integration with what is already in Ukraine’s armed forces, the production complex to support the munitions, and logistics are all taken into consideration.
Markarova emphasized that it is also crucial that not only the US but also other allies could supply these missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
