Ukrainian Railways (UZ) is studying the results of a test run of a trailer train to Poland, which transported trucks that had been blocked at the road border to Krakow, the company’s representative Oleg Yakovenko said. With this option, customers sent more expensive goods that could not wait in border queues.
“On the one hand, we have these platforms (for back-trailer transportation), which were repaired to develop such a business. On the other hand, there was a boost from business during the blockage of truck transportation at the border“, Yakovenko said.
Currently, the main problem is the lack of mechanisms on both sides, particularly at customs, and the establishment of document flow. Whether UZ will continue to operate these runs depends on whether they will be economically profitable and whether there will be demand for them. It is noted that the logistics of the test run were quite expensive, so now UZ is working on optimizing pricing.
