73% of Ukrainians and 80% of business representatives are most concerned about the resumption of corruption schemes in the reconstruction process. In addition, according to Transparency International Ukraine, 63% of citizens and 73% of entrepreneurs fear a lack of control and, as a result, embezzlement of public funds.
To neutralize corruption, 33% of Ukrainians and 44% of businesses propose to provide control mechanisms. Ukrainians also favor strengthening criminal liability for corruption, 24% and 18%, respectively. In their opinion, almost all institutions should control expenses, from authorities at all levels to public activists and law enforcement agencies.
However, during clarification, people place the primary responsibility for control on independent auditors and the president. At the same time, “Business generally trusts the authorities less and relies more on itself“, noted Transparency International Ukraine. Also, 60% of both the population and companies think that Ukraine’s reconstruction will last up to 10 years.
