Ukrainian titanium

The Western allies are working on locating, developing, and using titanium from Ukraine as a source for the critical metal that plays a leading role in developing the most advanced Western military technologies, which will form the basis of the future deterrence of Russia and China. As Newsweek explains, the US no longer keeps titanium sponge in its national defense stockpile, and the last domestic manufacturer of titanium sponge closed in 2020. The US and its allies can create a new titanium mining channel if Ukraine wins the war. However, if Russia succeeds in seizing the country’s fields and factories, Moscow will strengthen its global influence. This metal has not yet come under any sanctions precisely because of the West’s dependence on Russian titanium. However, in last year’s annual defense spending bill, the US State Department was ordered to study the possibility of using titanium sources from Ukraine as a potential alternative to the Chinese and Russians.
