Ukrainian Railways will end the year with a loss.

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) will end the year with a financial loss due to reduced freight traffic and many evacuation trips, said UZ supervisory board member Serhiy Leshchenko. The state railroad company will likely end the year with a loss due to a decrease in iron and grain cargo to the seaports that are currently blocked and are not accepting any shipments. In 2021, UZ ended the year with a profit of UAH 500M ($18M), and according to the financial projections for 2022, it should have brought in UAH 2B ($66M) in profits. These projections were made assuming a typical, peaceful year and in consideration of plans to increase railway traffic and apply new reforms. The national railway company was operating at a profit during the first two months of this year until the war began.
