Ukrainian biomethane can displace Russian gas from the EU market.

Ukrainian biomethane can become a key factor in reducing the European Union’s dependence on Russian gas, Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk said. The EU is also helping Ukraine harmonize natural gas legislation to simplify biomethane export. According to Kolisnyk, this will allow Ukrainian biomethane to displace Russian gas from the European market.

European Commission representative Yolanda Garcia Mesquita noted that Ukraine has significant potential for biomethane production. According to her, this resource can replace natural gas in the EU market, strengthening Europe’s energy independence. Ukraine is gradually becoming an essential player in ensuring Europe’s energy security, using its unique resources and technologies to develop renewable energy.

Kolisnyk emphasizes that Ukraine has significant resources for developing wind, solar, and geothermal energy. To strengthen regional potential, the Ministry of Energy is working on creating energy independence passports for each region.
