Ukraine's social housing fund can finish the construction of hundreds of unfinished buildings across the country.

The volume of completed construction work in Ukraine has increased by 37.1%.

The head of the specialized committee of the parliament, Olena Shulyak, noted that one focus of the social housing fund can be long-term unfinished buildings – houses that have not been completed for many reasons.

She noted that new housing legislation is currently being developed in Ukraine, which should ensure the right to housing for every Ukrainian who needs it. The framework draft law On the basic principles of housing policy, is already being prepared for registration, and it prescribes the creation of a mechanism for social rental rates that are at a lower-than-market value. Real estate for this will be provided from the social housing fund, which must be created from scratch as 98% of housing is privately owned. Completing unfinished construction objects can become a funding source for this fund.

In 2019, an inventory of such objects was made in Ukraine, and at that time, there were at least 1,000 long-term unfinished buildings of various types.
