Ukraine aims to initiate negotiations to achieve a sustainable peace as soon as possible and is prepared to finalize an agreement on mineral extraction and security guarantees with the US, said President Zelenskyy.
He reflected on his meeting with the US president, noting that it “[i]t did not go as planned. It is time to make things right. We would like to continue to cooperate and communicate constructively. We are thankful to America for its significant support in safeguarding the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”
Zelenskyy also outlined the initial steps that are necessary to end the war:
- A prisoner release, which would serve as a crucial signal of the conflict’s de-escalation.
- An immediate halt to aerial hostilities, including a ban on the use of missiles, long-range drones, and the bombing of energy and civilian infrastructure.
- A naval ceasefire, which would aid in reducing tensions.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is ready to meet these conditions if Russia reciprocates. The president emphasized that Ukraine is open to collaborating with the US to reach a final and effective peace agreement that will end the war.
