The G7 countries and other partners have raised more than $4B since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said during the G7+ ministerial meeting in New York. Germany, the Netherlands, and other countries have announced new contributions in the last month.
In June, US Vice President Kamala Harris announced the allocation of $500M for Ukraine’s energy needs, and last month, the US allocated another $300M, increasing its contribution to $1.8B. At the same time, the G7+ countries called on the international community to step up support for Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter.
“We recognize the need for international assistance to protect the energy infrastructure from attacks, including by strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities from countries that have undertaken the relevant obligations, and we confirm our readiness to continue such assistance,” the statement reads.
