US President Joe Biden’s administration plans to announce the provision of a new $200M arms package to Ukraine. It will include demining equipment, TOW and AT4 anti-tank weapons, guns and munitions, Lockheed Martin Patriot air defense systems, GMLRS guided missile systems, and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
This is the first highlighted package that is part of a $6.2B accounting error. In May, the Pentagon announced that it had mistakenly overestimated the cost of weapons that had been transferred to Ukraine. The military used the replacement value of equipment removed from Defense Department inventories and shipped to Ukraine instead of its residual book value.
This is the last part of the $25.5B package that was previously authorized by Congress, which the administration can use to deliver weapons from US warehouses at presidential discretion.
