Ukraine will need $24.5B annually to produce building materials for reconstruction.

The Ministry of Reconstruction has explained where the money to rebuild the country will come from.

Two foreman discussion on construction site

Volodymyr Vlasyuk, an industry expert, said that as of November 2022, Ukraine needed more than $62.8B to purchase and produce building materials for its reconstruction. However, at that time, the amount of residential destruction caused to Ukraine by the Russian army amounted to 74 million square meters, and at the end of 2023, this figure had increased to 89 million square meters.

He added that considering the preliminary evaluation following a damage assessment in November 2022, Ukraine should have to spend more than $24.5B annually to create the needed building materials.

Currently, domestic enterprises can produce about 90% of the necessary building materials, but Ukraine has no production of sheet glass or electrical switchboards. Regarding concrete, cement, insulation materials, and PVC profiles, the available capacities are insufficient to cover the expected demand.
