The route is about 400 km long, extending from the north to the south of the country. On May 31, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) and Moldova Railways signed a memorandum in Vinnytsia.
It is planned to restore the Valchinets – Oknytsia – Bieltsi – Ungeny – Chisinau – Kainary railway corridor. Reconstruction of this section will increase its carrying capacity, increase the speed of trains and improve the quality of freight transportation. The reconstruction is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
Ukraine’s interest in the project is that this section will become an additional convenient corridor for Ukrainian exporters to connect to the port of Reni. Moldova developed the reconstruction project within the Paths of Solidarity initiative, which is supported by the European Commission. Partners and international financial institutions will finance the project. Initially, Moldova will receive €32M, which will be transferred to UZ.
