Ukraine is preparing to certify Ukrtransgaz as a European gas storage operator. The first stage is the introduction of relevant changes to Ukraine’s legislation. This is already in the implementation process, reports Naftogaz of Ukraine. The certification will allow the EU countries strategic gas reserves to be stored in Ukrainian gas storage facilities. It will maximize the use of the gas storage network and increase revenues from underground storage services. The regulator NKREKP must detail the certification procedure, and Ukrtransgaz must officially provide all the documents necessary for its completion. After analysis and relevant conclusions by the Ukrainian regulator and the Secretariat of the Energy Community, a decision will be made on Ukrtransgaz’s certification as an underground gas storage operator in accordance with EU standards.
