State company Naftogaz will start purchasing gas in Europe, with deliveries scheduled for September. The purchased gas will be pumped into Ukraine’s underground storage facilities through the customs warehouse regime.
This will allow Naftogaz to stockpile fuel that can be cleared through customs quickly in case of emergency. Gas can be stored in a customs warehouse for up to three years. The entire reserve will be purchased using a €200M EBRD loan.
The price per cubic meter of imported gas is a trade secret and differs from TTF figures. Serhii Makogon, former top manager of the Operator of the GTS of Ukraine, announced earlier that the company has started importing gas. In his opinion, if gas had been purchased earlier, it would have been cheaper. Currently, the difference in price may exceed ₴2B.
