Farmers have already planted 247,000 hectares of spring wheat by mid-May out of the planned 285,000 hectares, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine reported. They noted that the last time similar wheat areas were sown was 12 years ago. In 2013, this figure was 160,200 hectares, and in 2021 it was 192,100 hectares.

The Dnipropetrovsk region is the leader in wheat planting with 32,100 hectares. Last year, the record holder was the Ternopil Region with 22,400 hectares, and in 2021 it was the Zhytomyr Region with 21,800 hectares.

However, despite the increased area of spring wheat sowing, their share is only 10% of this crop’s total production area in Ukraine. According to preliminary forecasts from the ministry, this year the harvest of grain and leguminous crops will amount to 45 million tons, of which more than 16.5 million tons will be wheat.
