Ukraine is negotiating with Turkey to place power plant ships in the key ports of Odesa and the Danube region to partially cover electricity shortages, said the head of the Odesa regional administration, Oleg Kiper.
“Turkey has ships that produce 250 MW. We are studying the issue of attracting three of them: in Izmail, Odesa, and the port Pivdenniy. We can supply electricity to the city and several districts,” he said, recalling that the Odesa region does not have any generation of its own.
According to him, the negotiations are still focused on security issues. It should be noted that using power plant ships that run on liquefied gas, diesel, fuel oil, or biofuel is a globally recognized technology. There is a global market for renting such energy barges with a volume of about 10 GW. The world’s leader in the energy barge market is the Turkish company, Karadeniz Holding, which operates under the Karpowership brand.
